Port Everglades features a narrow channel for ships to enter and exit the port. Along the northern edge of the channel homes and condos have given rise to a local tradition. Each day as ships sail past, Fort Lauderdale residents and condo owners gather and enjoy the "Elephant Walk" of ships departing. In this case, as Royal Caribbean International's Independence of the Seas sails past, bringing up the the end of the Elephant Walk, the passengers get a kick out of the festivities.

TUI cruises, part of Royal Caribbean’s extended family of cruise lines, is installing exhaust scrubbers produced by the Valmet. "We are proud to continue the supply of our technology to the TUIC fleet. Our scrubber system will ensure for the ships a modern, reliable exhaust gas cleaning system," said, Anssi Mäkelä of Valmet. The scrubbers will be installed in the Mein Schiff 7 and 8 which are being builtl in the Meyer Turku yards in Finland.

*BREAKING NEWS UPDATED* Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas encountered heavy seas and wind-gusts up to 74 mph this past Sunday. Waves resulted in upturned furniture and cosmetic damage about the ship. Passengers were restricted to their staterooms during the storm which did NOT interrupt viewing of the Superbowl.
